#blacklivesmatter

what is black lives matter?

black lives matter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of trayvon martin‘s murder. the mission of this movement is to stop racial profiling, discrimination, police injustice, unlawful killings, white supremacy, and racial inequality in the justice system. black lives matter activists frequently hold protests surrounding these issues.

why not to support all lives matter

all lives matter was created to silence black lives matter. all lives aren’t currently being oppressed or discriminated against, black lives are. saying all lives matter feels like you’re belittling and discrediting the blm movement. saying black lives matter doesn’t mean that all lives don’t matter, it just means that your life isn’t in jeopardy.

say that your house caught on fire, would the fire department spray all of the houses in the neighborhood with water? no, because they're not all on fire so they’d only spray yours. that’s essentially all lives matter compared to black lives matter.

why not to support blue lives matter

cops wake up and choose to go to work everyday, and they choose to target black people. police can choose what days they wanna go and work. black people were born with the color of their skin, we can’t pick and choose. it’s degrading to support the blue lives matter movement. saying you support blue lives matter is disregarding the blatant systematic racism and social injustice to black communities in the police force.

why all cops are bastards

when we say all cops are bastards we’re referring to the definition of bastardize, “corrupt or debase.” from the moment someone decides to become a cop they join a corrupt system. black people are more likely to be killed or incarcerated by the police rather than any other race, even though they only account for about 13% of the us population. this is because black people are stereotyped as “more dangerous.” now looking at the word debase, this word means to degrade or devalue. this word correlated with acab because they frequently racial profile us, kill innocent black people, and treat us unfairly when arresting.

protest information

make sure you know your rights.

  • freedom of expression and assembly: you have the right to voice your own opinion and assemble peacefully.

  • protection of the right to freedom of assembly: law enforcement must facilitate and not restrict a peaceful public assembly.

  • freedom from excessive use of force: in the policing of non-violent protests, police must avoid the use of force.

  • right to medical assistance: if you’re injured you have a right to medical assistance without delay.

  • freedom from arbitrary arrest and detention: if you are arrested you have a right to be told of the reason for your arrest, you also have the right promptly after your arrest to have access to a lawyer and to your family.

  • right to complain: if your rights have been violated you have a right to file a complaint and to be provided information on how to do so.

your rights when stopped by police while protesting.

  • stay calm and keep your hands visible. don’t resist, argue, or obstruct the police, even if you believe that they’re violating your rights. point out that you’re not disrupting anyone else’s activity and that the first amendment protects your actions.

  • ask if you’re free to leave. if the officer says yes, calmly walk away.

  • if you’re under arrest you have the right to ask why. otherwise, say that you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. don’t say or sign anything without a lawyer.

  • you have the right to make a local phone call, and if you’re calling your lawyer, the police aren’t aloud to listen.

  • you never have to consent to a search of yourself or your belongings. if you do explicitly consent, it can affect you in court.

  • police may “pat down” your clothing if they suspect that you have a weapon on you and may search you after an arrest.

  • police officers may not confiscate or demand to view your pictures or videos without a warrant, nor may they delete data under any circumstances. however, they may order citizens to cease activities that are truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement operations.

what happens if the police issues an order to disperse the protest?

  • shutting down a protest through a dispersal order must be law enforcements last resort. police may not break up a gathering unless there is a clear and present danger of riot, disorder, interference with traffic, or other intermediate threat to public safety.

  • if officers issue a dispersal order, they must provide a reasonable opportunity to comply, including sufficient time and a clear, unobstructed exit path.

  • individuals must receive clear and detailed notice of a dispersal order, including how much time they have to disperse, the consequences of failing to disperse, and what clear exit route they can follow, before they may be arrested or charged with any crime.

what to do if you believe your rights have been violated.

  • when you can, write down everything you remember, including the officers badge and patrol car numbers the agency they work for.

  • get contact information for witnesses.

  • take pictures of any injuries.

  • once you have all of this information, you can file a written complaint with the agency’s internal affairs division or civilian complaint board.

more helpful information.

  • oc spray and/or pepper spray is an oil based substance. water will make it more painful, and harder to see. a way around this is before or after you’re in a situation where you‘re going to be sprayed, rub no tears baby shampoo on your face. this will allow you to wash off the spray in a much less painful way. if you can’t get baby shampoo, milk, or something else, it’s best to wait until it dries on your face. this way isn’t the nicest, but it’s the best way to go about it. dont rub or touch your eyes, there are tiny crystals that form when oc hits your face and it can cut your eyes, making this experience so much worse.

  • don’t wear makeup to a protest incase you get teargassed. it’ll be hard to breathe, but as long as you don’t have respiratory issues, you will be safe. don’t panic, if your breathing becomes more heavy, you’ll end up inhaling more of it in. you can use a traffic cones to cover the canister and pour water into the top of it, this will help control the spread of the gas.

  • umbrellas: block rubber bullets and bb rounds. bring a lot because they break when hit

  • plastic wrap skin against pepper spray

  • 3m respirator with 60928k or p100 cartridges and goggles against tear gas

  • 3tsp baking soda per 8.5 oz water against tear gas particles

  • don’t stay in one place for too long because the police will come

  • some people may agree for the cause but not the violence and the government will use that to their advantage

  • communicate through telegram, signal, and air drops. bridgefy can text through bluetooth if there’s jammers
